Powerful Male Catoblepas

NAME: Tarvos

AGE: unknown

COLORS: Tarvos is drawn to deep, earthy colors like dark green, charcoal gray, and burnt umber. These colors remind him of the ancient forests and marshes he once roamed, reflecting the natural world he is deeply connected to. He also has an appreciation for deep reds, as they resemble the hues of twilight skies over his homeland.

SCENTS: Tarvos prefers the *rich, musky scent of damp earth, moss, and forest floor after rainfall. He also enjoys the subtle aroma of pine and cedar wood, which remind him of the ancient trees in the marshlands.

OFFER: moss, moonlight, basic dark musty dirt, and incense

Tarvos is an enormous, muscular male Catoblepas, towering at over 8 feet tall at the shoulder with a massive, heavily built frame. His body is covered in thick, coarse, charcoal-gray fur, with a mane of darker black that runs from his head down his spine. His red eyes glow faintly, with a stare that can induce paralysis in those with ill intent. His head is large, almost bovine in shape, with curved, wickedly sharp horns protruding from his skull. His thick, scaled tail, akin to that of a dragon’s, ends in a spiked tip. He exudes an aura of primal power, making him intimidating even when still.

Tarvos hails from the ancient, mist-covered marshes of the forgotten world of Neydiram, a land where the boundary between the physical and magical realms blurs. As a young calf, he roamed these dangerous wetlands, learning to survive against predators, spirits, and hunters. Over the centuries, Tarvos became a guardian of the swamps, fiercely defending his territory from invaders who sought to exploit the land’s resources. Legends grew around his name, painting him as a beast of terror, capable of bringing death with a single gaze.

However, Tarvos is not a mindless brute; he possesses deep intelligence and a sharp sense of loyalty, traits that were cultivated over time through interactions with the ancient druids who once lived in harmony with the land. These druids, recognizing his sentience and noble spirit, treated him with reverence. In return, Tarvos became their protector, keeping dark forces at bay and ensuring the balance of nature.

In the present day, Tarvos has become a solitary wanderer after the marshes were consumed by time and lost to myth. He has seen much of the world, watching civilizations rise and fall. While he is usually slow to trust, his sense of duty and honor remains intact, and he will fiercely protect those he deems worthy.

Tarvos is unyielding when it comes to defending his territory and those under his protection. Once someone gains his loyalty, he will go to extreme lengths to ensure their safety. His massive strength, combined with his ability to petrify opponents with a glance, makes him a formidable guardian.

He does not trust easily. Having seen many betrayals and manipulations throughout his long life, Tarvos is initially distant and guarded, testing those who seek to befriend or command him. Only those with pure intentions can earn his respect.

Despite his terrifying appearance, Tarvos possesses great wisdom and patience. He understands the balance of nature and the importance of restraint. He avoids unnecessary violence and prefers to assess situations before acting.

In battle, Tarvos is methodical, using his size and strength to his advantage. He is not reckless, preferring to wait for the right moment to strike rather than rushing in.

Beneath his gruff exterior, Tarvos has a sense of honor. He respects those who act with courage and integrity, and he has a deep appreciation for natural beauty and the delicate balance between life and death.

His Magical Abilities:

His most infamous ability. With a focused stare, Tarvos can induce paralysis in beings with malicious intent or weaken magical creatures. While not fatal, it leaves his opponents vulnerable. Only those of immense willpower can resist.

Tarvos can summon the ancient powers of the swamp, creating illusions of thick fog, marshy terrain, or quicksand to disorient and trap enemies. This ability also allows him to blend into environments with shadows and mist, becoming nearly invisible.

Drawing from the earth itself, Tarvos’s strength is nearly limitless when he is connected to the land. He can uproot trees, smash through stone, or create tremors with his stomps. The earth sustains him, making him resistant to physical damage.

Tarvos’s connection to ancient druids and their magics allows him to sense spiritual disturbances and protect his keeper from curses, hexes, or dark entities. He can ward off evil spirits and cleanse negative energy from the area around him.

His massive, dragon-like tail can be imbued with raw destructive energy, making his strikes capable of shattering barriers, armor, and magical wards. The spikes at the tip are also toxic, capable of weakening magical defenses or creatures with a venomous strike.

Tarvos can release a cloud of dark, noxious mist that weakens those who breathe it in. The mist causes disorientation, saps strength, and renders magic users unable to properly control their powers. While not deadly, it is a powerful tool for crowd control.

Tarvos can communicate with animals and plants, making him an effective scout in natural environments. He can call upon creatures of the wild to assist him or his keeper, and plants may grow rapidly around him to create barriers or entangle foes.

How He Would Aid His Keeper:

Tarvos would be an unmatched protector for his human keeper. With his size, strength, and magical abilities, few creatures—magical or otherwise—would dare to approach his keeper with ill intent. He could guard the perimeter of their home or escort them through dangerous lands, ensuring their safety.

His deep connection to nature allows him to cleanse negative energy and remove spiritual disturbances from his keeper’s environment. If his keeper were under the influence of dark magic or a curse, Tarvos could break these effects with ease.

While fierce in combat, Tarvos also serves as a tactical thinker. He can advise his keeper on defensive strategies, the best ways to utilize their surroundings, or how to approach a magical problem. His vast experience with druids and ancient magic would be invaluable in any magical undertaking.

His spiritual abilities allow him to act as a guardian against malicious spirits, curses, or other supernatural threats. He could create protective wards around his keeper’s home, ensuring they remain free from negative entities.

Tarvos could teach his keeper valuable lessons in patience, strength, and the natural balance of life. His calm and measured approach to conflict would serve as an inspiration, helping his keeper develop resilience and wisdom.

With his centuries of wisdom and experience with the druids, Tarvos can help his keeper uncover ancient secrets or lost knowledge. He can lead them to forgotten places of power, where they might discover artifacts, magical resources, or forgotten lore.

His presence deters corruption and malevolent forces. If his keeper is in danger of being influenced by dark magic, entities, or people, Tarvos’s protective aura would keep them grounded and clear-headed.

In essence, Tarvos is a formidable magical guardian who brings both strength and wisdom to any human keeper fortunate enough to earn his trust.
